...with my wireless NIC on our laptop.

After it (the computer) boots up, I plug in the card (it's PCMCIA)...it warms up...then, right after the little speech-bubble saying 'wireless connection found' (or whatever)...the computer freezes...So, I pull the card out and it works...for about 5 seconds.

Then I get WinXp's modified version of the BSoD that says something like , Windows has detected an error, and has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer... It also says something about ndis.sys in the technical info.

It used to be just every couple times or so it did this, but now its invariable, and makes checking email impossible...Or close to it...luckily, Ive got a wired 10/100 Nic that doesnt freeze the comp, but (for various reasons) this is only a temporary solution.

Ive tried re-installing the drivers, but this doesnt help...

I use Netgear out of habit they used to be BayNetworks...

D-Link should be fine and it is one of the higher rated wireless vendors at the moment for g and above along with Netgear, so it shouldn't be a problem...

It has to be something simple causing the issue, the NDIS error was a dead give away that it was a driver issue to begin with...

Night Travis, and good luck with the sleep thing
I won't try until between 5:00am and 7:30am and then will be awake again by 9:30am - 10:00am at the latest which is pretty much SOP unless I do not sleep for a number of days in a row

Ok, IP...To answer your question, yes I have SP1 installed...

Did you ever dig anyhting up about the freezing-when-inserting PCMCIA card issue?
on Dec 09, 2003
Working on it and yes I have some possible fixes, but they have some things you have to make sure you do not do...

I will put a email together with instructions which should get it up and running. It seems that the power managment of the NIC causes one conflict and there is another with the ISA/PCI/PCIMIA modual fr Windows which can be patched with a few steps, but if you allow the computer to go into Hybernate or SLeep Mode it will screw the slot up and not release it.

Anyway, yes we can get it up and running... just going to learn more than you thought

Or might have wanted?

Glad to hear it IP...I hope you got some sleep after last night...

Dont worry, I never hesitate to learn more about computers...
