Are there any free proggys for assembling frames to make animated gif's?

You can do it with Image Ready, which is included with Photoshop. It's quite easy.

I've use Gif Movie Gear...Pretty easy.

Ulead Gif Animator...Really Easy.

You can create the individual frames as layers and move them over to Image Ready to animate.

Paint Shop Pro works too. And another good animation program is Macromedia Fireworks.

you can also do animations in windows movie maker you can save your animation in GIF
